Automated Scale in a Salt Mine

At a salt mine on the lower left Rhine, we have continuously modernized existing vehicle scales over the past 20 years, delivered new vehicle scales, or supplied weighing technology components. Our weighing software in conjunction with SAP controls the entire process.

Process:

After drivers register at the forwarding company, an RFID card is issued, which triggers the processes at barriers and driver operating columns of the various scales. At vehicle scales for determining tare weight or for gross weighing, as well as at vehicle scales and container scales for salt loading, the loading order is started using the RFID card.

Vehicle scales with lateral bridge edging as a curb ensure proper driving onto the scale, light barriers at the front and rear ensure exact positioning on the scale, and signal lights in front of and behind the scale control access and exit. Camera systems and intercoms in the operating columns can provide helpful support to the driver.

During the loading process of vehicles on the scale, the driver controls the loading spout in its position and orientation using a control pendant in order to load all types of vehicles. For chamber vehicles with different numbers of domes, the driver can preselect the desired partial quantity and the exact shutoff is performed by us when the quantity is reached. A tare weighing is performed in advance and after reaching the desired salt quantity, a gross weighing is performed with printout of the documents and transfer of the data to SAP.

During the loading process of vehicles via one of four container scales, the ordered quantity of salt is discharged from the container using the RFID card. The possible net quantity is calculated from the tare weight determined on a vehicle scale and the maximum gross weight of 40,000 kg. Here too, documents are finally printed and the data is transferred to SAP.

Due to the modular system of our weighing software, the vehicle scales for loading can also be used for manual first and second weighings. All operating devices are designed for outdoor use, specifically for the salt-containing environment. All steel parts of the vehicle scales are made of V4A and the concrete prefabricated parts have coatings to protect against salt attack. We will be happy to advise you on your specific requirements.

Operating Terminal for Waste Disposal and Recycling Company

At one of the largest waste disposal and recycling companies in Germany, we have equipped existing vehicle scales with our driver operating columns at approximately 30 locations and thus expanded them to automatic scales. At some locations, new vehicle scales have also been delivered as complete solutions.

The expansion additionally includes traffic light systems in front of the scale, camera systems with automatic license plate recognition, light barriers on the scale for correct positioning of the vehicle, a camera for viewing the load from above, and barrier systems. The driver operating columns are equipped at truck height with a QR code scanner and touch screen. A weighing slip is printed on a DIN A4 laser printer, and an intercom is used for communication with the gatekeeper.

All driver operating columns are insulated, heated and ventilated, and depending on the region, also equipped with air conditioning systems. At some locations with car and small van traffic, QR code scanners, touch screens and printers are additionally installed at a second operating height, so that alternating car and truck operation can take place.

At locations where left-hand drive and right-hand drive vehicles are weighed, two driver operating columns are installed in each case. In addition, for tractors that cannot be weighed at either the left or right driver operating column, radio control is installed. The vehicle identification is transmitted on a handheld transmitter with numeric keypad, thus triggering the weighing.
